ABOUT US

printing shirts

Established in 1982 in the small Lancashire mill town town of Burnley, Winner has grown into one of the UKs leading suppliers of printed and embroidered garments. Initially the business was developed to provide t-shirts for running races and running clubs.

In the early 80s there was literally nobody providing this service and we saw a gap in the market that needed filling and our success was built on that idea. Now, with over forty years of trading we are still providing running races and running clubs with the addition of charities, schools, and corporate businesses added to our portfolio. As we have developed our business we have introduced more sustainable products using recycled polyesters and cottons.

Recycled polyester and cotton are both considered to be sustainable materials when used in the t-shirt manufacturing process. Recycled polyester is made from plastic bottles and other post-consumer plastic waste, which diverts plastic waste from landfills and reduces the need for new petroleum-based materials. Additionally, the production process of recycled polyester uses less energy and water compared to the production of virgin polyester. Cotton is considered to be a sustainable crop because it is renewable, biodegradable and can be grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. Cotton is also a very versatile crop and can be grown in many regions of the world. However, conventional cotton farming is resource-intensive and requires large amounts of water, pesticides and synthetic fertilizers. Organic cotton farming is more sustainable, as it eliminates the use of harmful chemicals, and also improves soil health and biodiversity. Additionally, using a blend of recycled polyester and cotton also reduces the need for new raw materials, and can help reduce the environmental impact of t-shirt production.

T-shirt ink

Our inks that we use for printing are very durable, such that the print often out lasts the actual garment contributing to long-lasting, slow fashion.
Recently new synthetic and bio-based substrates have hit the market and gained popularity with the eco-friendly consumer. We are always on the lookout for what the next sustainable product will be.

Bio-based inks are a type of ink made from natural, renewable materials such as soy or vegetable oils, rather than petroleum-based materials. These inks are often used in t-shirt printing because they are considered to be more environmentally friendly than traditional inks. They are also less toxic and can be more easily disposed of. Some bio-based inks are also specifically formulated to be soft to the touch, which can make printed designs on t-shirts feel more comfortable against the skin.

There are several types of fabric commonly used in running and athletics garments, each with its own set of benefits.

Polyester: Polyester is a synthetic fabric that is lightweight, quick-drying, and moisture-wicking. It is a popular choice for athletic clothing because it helps to keep the body dry and comfortable during intense physical activity.

Nylon: Nylon is a synthetic fabric that is lightweight and durable. It is often used in running and athletics t-shirts because it is breathable and helps to wick moisture away from the skin.

Spandex or Elastane: Spandex or Elastane is a synthetic fabric that is stretchy and flexible. It is often used in running and athletics t-shirts to provide a snug, comfortable fit that moves with the body.

Merino Wool: Merino Wool is a natural fabric that is soft and moisture-wicking. It is a popular choice for running and athletics t-shirts because it helps to regulate body temperature, keeping the wearer warm in cold weather and cool in warm weather.

Bamboo: Bamboo fabric is a natural, sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional synthetic fabrics. It is soft, breathable and absorbent, making it a great choice for running and athletics t-shirts. Bamboo is also naturally anti-bacterial and odor-resistant.

It is also worth noting that many running and athletics t-shirts are made from a blend of different fabrics, often combining the benefits of multiple fabrics to provide optimal performance for athletes.

We also work hard to improve the sustainability of our operations. This includes actively seeking out greener, more efficient methods and technologies to reduce our carbon footprint and energy consumption.

So why not join us on our journey, we will gladly welcome you aboard!
